Advertising Policy

This Advertising Policy governs all campaigns placed on KandaNews Africa — including the mobile app, digital editions, and associated web properties — operated by Thirdsan Enterprises Ltd. By submitting an advertising campaign, you agree to these standards in full. KandaNews reserves the right to reject, suspend, or remove any advertisement that violates this policy.
1. Accepted Advertising Categories
We welcome advertising from businesses and organisations operating across our four active markets (Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa). Accepted categories include:
- Consumer products and retail (food, beverages, electronics, fashion)
- Financial services (banking, insurance, mobile money — regulated entities only)
- Education and training institutions
- Telecommunications and technology
- Healthcare and wellness (excluding prescription-only medications)
- Real estate and property
- Events, entertainment and hospitality
- NGOs, government bodies, and development sector organisations
- Startups and SMEs with verifiable business registration
2. Prohibited Content
The following content is not permitted on any KandaNews platform:
- Illegal products or services in any country where our editions operate
- Tobacco, cigarettes, vapes or any nicotine-delivery product
- Alcohol advertising targeting audiences under 18, or in jurisdictions where such advertising is restricted
- Gambling and betting without verifiable regulatory approval in the target country
- Weaponry, firearms, ammunition or related accessories
- Adult content of any kind
- Political campaign advertising for individual candidates (issue-based civic advertising is reviewed case by case)
- Misleading or deceptive claims, including unsubstantiated superlatives ("best", "number one") without evidence
- Cryptocurrency and unregistered investment schemes
- Hate speech, discrimination, or content that demeans any group based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, or sexual orientation
- Counterfeit goods or infringing intellectual property
3. Creative Standards
All advertising creatives submitted to KandaNews must meet the following quality standards:
- Resolution: Images must be at least 1080 × 1920px (portrait) for full-page edition ads
- File formats: JPG, PNG, or PDF for static ads; MP4 (H.264) for video
- File size: Maximum 5MB for images; 30MB for video
- Legibility: All text must be readable at mobile screen sizes. Minimum font size 16px equivalent
- Branding: The advertiser's name or logo must be clearly visible
- Language: Copy must be in English or a language appropriate to the target country edition
- No deceptive UI: Ads must not mimic system notifications, error messages, or editorial content in a way that misleads readers
4. Review Process
All advertisements are reviewed by our editorial team before publication:
- Review timeline: Typically within 24 hours of submission during business days (Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm EAT)
- Approval: You will receive confirmation by email or WhatsApp once your ad is approved and scheduled
- Rejection: If your creative is rejected, we will provide a clear reason and give you the opportunity to revise and resubmit at no extra charge
- Resubmission limit: A maximum of two revisions are permitted per booking. If the third submission is still non-compliant, the campaign will be cancelled and a refund issued per our Refund Policy
5. Advertiser Responsibilities
By placing an advertisement with KandaNews Africa, you confirm that:
- You have the legal right to use all content, trademarks, and images in your creative
- Your business is registered and operating legally in its country of origin
- All claims made in your advertisement are truthful, accurate and substantiated
- You have obtained any regulatory approvals required for your product or service category (e.g. financial services licences, pharmaceutical approvals)
- You will not attempt to circumvent this policy by submitting creatives that appear compliant but link to non-compliant content
6. Country-Specific Compliance
Advertisers are responsible for ensuring their campaigns comply with local laws in each country where their ad will appear. KandaNews Africa currently operates in:
- 🇺🇬 Uganda — governed by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)
- 🇰🇪 Kenya — governed by the Advertising Standards Bureau of Kenya
- 🇳🇬 Nigeria — governed by the Advertising Standards Council of Nigeria (ARCON)
- 🇿🇦 South Africa — governed by the Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB)
KandaNews reserves the right to restrict a campaign to specific country editions if it does not meet the regulatory requirements of all active markets.
7. Enforcement
KandaNews Africa reserves the right to:
- Reject any advertisement at our sole discretion, even if it appears to meet the above criteria
- Remove a live advertisement immediately if we determine it violates this policy or receives sustained reader complaints
- Suspend an advertiser account for repeated policy violations
- Report illegal advertising content to relevant regulatory authorities
KandaNews Africa is not liable for any losses incurred by an advertiser as a result of enforcement action taken under this policy.
8. Changes to This Policy
This Advertising Policy may be updated periodically. Significant changes will be communicated to active advertisers by email. Continued use of our advertising services after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
